Panel | Cultural Heritage – The Invisible Victim of War?
Following the Norwegian premiere of THE LIONS BY THE RIVER TIGRIS, the film’s director, Zaradasht Ahmed, and Maria Christina Vibe from the Directorate for Cultural Heritage will engage in a conversation on cultural heritage in times of war.
The conversation will be in Norwegian.
Cultural heritage is tradition and forms the foundation of our identity. It serves as an important anchor in a turbulent world that is constantly changing. In times of war, cultural heritage is often destroyed or looted, with the goal of weakening a society’s identity, sense of belonging, and security.
Fortunately, concerns about the destruction of cultural heritage in war are not new. There are international regulations and agreements, such as the Hague Convention, that apply in armed conflicts and are intended to protect cultural heritage.
Following the Norwegian premiere of The Lions of the Tigris River, we invite you to a discussion about what happened to cultural heritage during ISIS’ siege of Mosul in Iraq.
The panel features the film’s director, Zaradasht Ahmed, and advisor at the Directorate for Cultural Heritage, Maria Christina Vibe. The conversation is moderated by Sara Aghili Taslimi.
The event is done in collaboration with the Fritt Ord Foundation.
