It’s not every year that we decide to have a section of short films during the festival, but this year we just couldn’t resist. You know the feeling when you come across a film thinking ”this has to be shown to others!” And when it happens three times in a row you suddenly have a short film program.

The first short is from Tunisia and revolves around a grandfather with dementia and diabetes, who refuses to follow the diet his grown-up daughter has made for him. The director, Mehdi Barsaoui who is finishing up his feature film debut, has made a warm and funny film which we are looking forward to show you at the festival.

The second film, A Man Returned, is a sort-of sequel to one of the best documentaries we have screened at Arab Film Days; A World Not Ours by Danish-Palestinian director Mehdi Fleifel. Fleifel came to Denmark as a young boy and spent most of his summer vacations in the Palestinian refugee camp Ain al-Hilwe in Lebanon. In this short film, we follow Reda who has returned to the camp after living on the street in Greece the last couple of years.

We don’t want to say too much about the third short, made by Damien Ounouri. It is the kind of movie that shouldn’t be described in advance – it would ruin the surprise. The film is established as a classical social realist drama about a family in Algeria, but that’s just the surface. Enjoy the film.
