Mariam's Choice

A delightful dramedy from Egypt, where humor and seriousness go hand in hand.

Mariam is the mother of a family of six, whom we meet in this Egyptian dramedy. She is also the first one to be confronted with a moral dilemma: her boss offers her a million pounds to help him leave this world. One by one, we meet the rest of the dysfunctional family: a husband who has a mistress and cares more about holding onto money than helping his children; the youngest son, who runs around in an elephant costume and watches porn with his friend; and a daughter who wants to get married but doesn't have the money for a dowry, finding a solution in her imagination. A delightful film with both humor and depth.

Mahmoud Yehia is an Egyptian filmmaker who graduated from the High Cinema Institute in Egypt in 2017. He has worked on several documentary and short narrative films. In 2023, he released his first feature film, Mariam’s Choice, for which he received the Best Director award at the 39th Alexandria International Film Festival.
